Pat Smith Selected GSE Team Leader

Temple South Rotarian Pat Smith has been selected to lead the District Group Study Exchange Team to the Bahia area of southern Brazil next Mar/Apr. She was selected from among 11 applicants from clubs throughout the District 5870 Central Texas area.

Group Study Exchange is a district program sponsored and funded by the Rotary Foundation. As part of the exchange, a team from the same Rotary District of Brazil will come to Central Texas in April/May and will spend four weeks in the homes of Rotarians in our district.

Over the next six months, Rotarian Smith will train along with four other non-Rotarian team members learning the Portuguese language and preparing presentations to Rotary Clubs given in Portuguese. Team members will stay in the home of Rotarians throughout the Brazilian Rotary District for four weeks. The other four team members are non-rotarians between the ages of 25-40 who are to be selected by competitive interview on Sep 27.

The focus of this exchange is to experience the Educational system in Brazil and to build good will and friendship between our countries. Any non-Rotarian in or related to the field of Education may apply for team membership by September 19. Contact Pat for more information.
